I met Ayla and Caleb a few years ago, at the beginning of my photography career. They entrusted me with documenting their anniversary in Canmore and I was struck by the uninhibited tenderness they shared, the familiar comfort of young love and the zeal for life they carried. And after a long battle with infertility, when they finally became pregnant, they also trusted me to capture this incredibly special time in their lives.
Why was this session important to you?
“Maternity photos have always been a dream to us. And one that, quite honestly, we never thought we’d get to experience. After 5 years of infertility and many heartbreaks, we are finally expecting our baby girl to join our family and couldn’t be more grateful and excited! Having a maternity session done that would really capture the love that we are feeling in this momentous time of our lives was very important to us.”
Through the years I have followed Ayla and Caleb on their journey through infertility ( you should join them too @aylasophia / @caleblangford and over on youtube: https://youtube.com/aylaandcaleb ) so when I heard that they were pregnant with little Nova my heart exploded for them. Because this was going to be an in home session. I knew this was going to be a comfortable and intimate space and I felt called to document their journey and all that came with this long trek – the joy, fear, love, hope, heartache and anticipation.
I am so moved by Ayla and Calebs candidness about their struggle. Infertility is such a delicate and intimate subject that most never dare whisper of. But here they are unabashedly raising awareness, an outpouring of uncensored raw emotion infused into each step. I would say that they are brave but that barely feels like it pays tribute enough to their lionhearted adventures.
