John and Rita, both elementary school teachers, met three years ago at work. Rita, a new teacher at the time, went to John for advice, as she still does and they bonded over books and beer. However John’s memory of the meeting is a little different. He remembers seeing Rita walking down the hall one early morning in a yellow jacket and he leaned over to his friend and said “Damn!”
What Rita had to say about their engagement:
“We were going skiing with a few friends. John had planned to ask one of our friends to take a picture on the hill when he proposed. But neither of our friends could make it that day! I had a hunch he was going to propose. On the way up I asked him and he told me that yes, he was going to propose. However because neither of our friends could come he didn’t bring the ring. He wanted the moment to be documented. I was honestly pretty upset! When we got to the hill, John noticed that the resorts mascot and his handler were behind us on the chair. We eventually got to the top and he asked them to take a picture of us together. Then John got down on one knee, pulled out the box and proposed! Our proposal photo is so fun because theres a big surprised mascot in the background! I was so excited, I shouted “I fucking knew it!” We were both shaking so much after wards. We had to sit down before we could ski.“
It was important to John and Rita that their wedding was an accurate reflection of their modern lives and different backgrounds. The day was full of beautiful traditions. A favourite was when everyone gathered outside their new home after the ceremony. Rita stuck dough above the door which is a Lebanese tradition that symbolizes their long and happy life ahead.
John and Rita ended their day at an explosive and vibrant celebration at Skyline in Kensington. Celebrating their marriage by dancing the night away with incredible exuberance and love.
